Even when expertly installed, electrical cables are often just not sufficient to ensure secure signal transmission. There can be problems with shielding and the separate running of power lines. Glass fibre cables offer a simpler, more reliable and more competitively priced solution.

For applications involving incremental encoders, where the user is confronted with difficulties of communication - either due to a lot of noise interference or because of long distances - Kübler offers a simple option for retrofitting existing standard encoder solutions, without the need to change over to expensive optical fibre encoders. The appropriate optical fibre module (LWL) is installed after the encoder and before the controller; the first module converts the electrical signals into reliable optical (light) signals and the second receiver module then converts these back to electrical signals when they reach their destination. An optical fibre cable is then run between the two modules, or an already existing optical fibre cable be used if preferred.

Only a single glass fibre is required, to transmit up to 4 channels. This permits safe, interference-free signal transmission, even in the presence of very strong magnetic fields, for distances up to 1000 metres and with an input frequency of up to 400 kHz. Input levels of 10-30V or RS422 are available, allowing the modules to be connected to all standard commercially-available encoders. The system does not take up much space thanks to the very compact 22mm wide DIN rail housing.

The glass fibre cables are available ready assembled as accessories within the product range. The cables just have to be inserted into the modules - as simple as that! The application areas for optical fibre modules are wide-ranging, especially in process control engineering and in automation, but also where reliable electrical isolation is required. Optical fibre modules also offer an interesting alternative solution in areas subject to explosion hazards or where high-voltage equipment is present.

Very latest addition to the Kübler range: Slip rings - compact and economical

Kübler is launching a new generation of slip rings onto the market with its two models IST-SR085 and IST-SR060 (dimensions: ø 85mm and 60mm); these combine technical innovation with the product quality and compact size for which Kübler is renowned.

Slip rings can be used in many diverse industry sectors (such as for video surveillance CCTV equipment, cranes, rotary tables etc.); they transmit electrical load current, signals or data (also pneumatic or hydraulic, on request) from a stationary to a rotating platform. The transmission between the stator and rotor units takes place via sliding contacts (for current up to 40 A) and is extremely reliable. Fieldbus signals such as Profibus, CANopen etc. can be transmitted at up to 12MB. The modular system construction offers the highest degree of flexibility in a wide variety of applications. Model SR060 is for example ideally suited for the heating of sealing rollers in packaging machines.

Thanks to their fully encapsulated housing (in high-grade glass-reinforced plastic), high protection rating (up to IP 64) and resistance to vibration,  these rugged products are perfectly suited to industrial use; they guarantee long service intervals of more than 50 million revolutions and a long service life of over 500 million revolutions - better than the majority of other competitive products. The maximum speed of 800 1/min is also a figure that is unmatched on the market.
Equally unique is the possibility to selectively combine the various load and signal channels, which means that customised versions can be accomplished both simply and effectively. In addition, the Safety-Trans™-Design with its two-cavity system for load and signal transmission offers a further special feature. The integrated labyrinth seal, which combines internal dust protection with electrical isolation between the load and signal channels, satisfies the most stringent quality standards. Furthermore the Safety-TransTM construction of the springs guarantees reliable transmission, even when subjected to a high level of vibration.
The pick-off springs mounted in the stator ring for load currents contain copper graphite, which ensures high abrasion resistance, whilst the pick-off springs for signal currents are manufactured from a high quality gold/platinum alloy, with a minimum 50% gold content.

The units are simple and convenient to handle and maintain, as a result of the easily accessible, sturdy connections, removable maintenance window as well as the individually replaceable brush rings.

Cost-efficiency is guaranteed, thanks to the minimization of individual parts, the advantageous method of mounting and to component assembly that has been specifically tailored to suit requirements.
