According to WirtschaftsWoche (issue 51/2018), the Kübler Group was among the 50 most innovative medium-sized German companies in 2018. Kübler is a world-leading specialist in position and motion sensors (including rotary encoders), slip rings and transmission technology, as well as meters and process devices.

For the fifth time, the Munich Strategy Group (MSG) commissioned WirtschaftsWoche to evaluate over 3,500 companies with regard to innovation-relevant factors, and to award them an "innovation score" derived from a range of key figures and "innovation criteria". As a result, Kübler's innovative strength was assessed on the basis of the company's sales and earnings strength, "soft" and "hard" innovation factors, as well as surveys of its customers, competitors and media.

Both senior management at Kübler and the entire Kübler team are visibly delighted by the award. "The award is confirmation of our 'Innovation Marathon', which we started in 2015 and motivates us to devote lots of energy to innovation," said Gebhard Kübler, one of the two managing partners of the family-owned company. "We always want to understand our customers' applications in their various segments. This ensures we can create the right product solutions," added Gebhard Kübler. At present, the company's innovation strategy increasingly includes close cooperation with universities and institutes, with which some of its basic technologies are being jointly developed, and from which expertise is temporarily "bought in".

In recent years, Kübler has convincingly expanded its innovative power, introduced new innovation processes and greatly increased employee numbers in its research and development teams. According to managing director Lothar Kübler, the company can thus offer committed employees very good prospects along with an interesting workload and a great deal of personal responsibility.

In 2018, Kübler achieved initial successes via new products in the field of shaft copying for elevator technology as well as its smart, bearingless rotary encoders.
The latter help customers to save space when designing motors and generators, and to carry out preventive maintenance, thus enabling them to meet the requirements for Industry 4.0.

The company has strategically broadened its product range in recent years to secure its future outlook and meet its growth targets – for example, by adding slip rings to its product range. These transmit data and streams in machines from stationary to rotary platforms. Increasingly often, digitised machine processes use sensors that transmit their data as Ethernet signals via slip rings.

The two brothers and managing directors of this second-generation family business from the Black Forest have been managing the company for 20 years. With 11 subsidiaries and agents in more than 50 countries, Kübler has a worldwide presence. The company supplies products and solutions for a wide range of sectors, including motors for drive technology, wind power, mobile automation, as well as conventional plant engineering and mechanical engineering.

The traditional company Kübler from Villingen-Schwenningen in southwest Germany celebrated its annual Christmas party in the Neue Tonhalle in Villingen together with over 300 employees last Friday, 14 December 2018. As a family business, Kübler attaches great importance to team spirit and solidarity. Despite being a larger company, Kübler therefore believes it is important to host a joint Christmas party for the whole company in a festive setting. The Kübler brothers and managing directors Lothar and Gebhard Kübler explained that they were fully aware that this does not happen at most companies, and were glad that it was greatly appreciated by many of their employees. The celebration was based on a traditional framework program with a strong focus on the company's social commitments. In this context, the managing directors announced donations totalling around EUR 10,000 to several organisations. In each case, the goal was to promote social aspects, children or education, both locally and internationally.

The two main recipients this year, the Vesper church in Schwenningen and the "Ümüt-Nadjeschda" association for disabled children in Kyrgyzstan, each received a cheque for EUR 2,000.

Pastor Güntter from the Vesper church (www.vesperkirche.de) thanked managing directors Lothar and Gebhard Kübler and emphasised that Kübler was one of the very few companies to support the organisation every year since the foundation of the Vesper church. In addition, the Kübler trainees have also each spent one day working at the Vesper church since 2018. Pastor Güntter has been there from the beginning, and is therefore considered a "pater familias". Together with his staff and guests at the Vesper church, he experiences a unique sense of community which he, like many others, feels is now indispensable – because it sets a positive example, provides warm food for socially disadvantaged people and brings people from all social strata together around one table. The church thus acts as a hospitable guest house that is open to everyone. Currently, up to 300 people come together there every day.

Lothar Fritzsche from the Ümüt-Nadjeschda association (www.nadjeschda.org ) gratefully accepted the cheque and reported on the association's activities. Fritzsche is a branch manager in St. Georgen. His sister Karla-Maria Schälike lived in Kyrgyzstan as a western foreigner during the Soviet era, where she witnessed the fate of many women who gave birth to disabled children. The children were taken away from the women and to this day still live in complete isolation from the rest of society. Ümüt-Nadjeschda e.V. runs a children's centre in Nadjeschda that welcomes, supports and develops the affected children. So far, the results are encouraging, with some of the children even able to study abroad. Karla-Maria Schälike has already been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her charitable work.

Gebhard and Lothar Kübler thanked their employees and colleagues throughout the world for their outstanding work in 2018.  They reported that the financial year had been successful with growth of almost 10 per cent. Furthermore, Gebhard Kübler announced the company's latest success: According to a study by WirtschaftsWoche (a German weekly business news magazine) Kübler is among Germany's 50 most innovative medium-sized companies.
Finally, the managing directors looked ahead to the new year 2019 and expressed cautious optimism.  They explained that the company is moving forward with clear plans for continued growth, while planning costs and investments on a short-term basis and intensifying efforts to increase our competitiveness. Both entrepreneurs are looking forward to the coming year – and to facing the enormous opportunities and challenges together with all of their staff.

Since the age of three, the third generation of the Kübler family has traditionally performed at the Christmas event. This time around, the youngsters treated the guests to a wonderful "TV show", which included a newsreader who reported on the news from Kübler, as well as a fantastic singer and even a very talented ballet dancer. The proceedings were brought to a close by the Santa Clauses, who were on hand to wish all guests a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2019.
The "Young Voices" youth choir from Villingen under the direction of Daniel Sütö performed some pieces from their repertoire and ended with "O Du Fröhliche" to ensure a festive mood.
Another highlight this year was the magician Dominic Rams, who performed numerous magic tricks that left the guests spellbound in the truest sense of the word.

The official part of the event was concluded by the trainees' programme item, which provided great entertainment in the form of a quiz that included several executives as well as both managing directors. However, instead of ordinary quiz questions, the audience was shown film clips depicting scenes from daily life at Kübler, which were re-enacted by the trainees.

The Christmas party was an all-round great evening, which our staff summed up by saying: "Inspiring customers means first of all inspiring our employees – that's the Kübler way!"

The innovation marathon kicked off a few years ago is now bringing concrete successes on the market / annual press conference.

The Kübler Group, based in Villingen-Schwenningen in the Black Forest, saw sales and incoming orders above budget in the current financial year and is now reaping the first fruits of the innovation marathon they initiated a few years ago. This was explained by the two shareholders and managing directors, brothers Lothar and Gebhard Kübler, at their annual press conference at the company's headquarters in front of almost 30 editorial representatives of the trade press from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

In the current fiscal year, Kübler is above plan in terms of both incoming orders and sales, growing at a double-digit rate. The managing directors say the group's sales target of € 66 million, 70% of which is international, can be expected to be achieved. Besides Germany (+10%), the main drivers of growth are primarily the EU (+14%), China (+30%), India (+25%) and the USA (+22%). The Kübler Group now employs just under 480 people worldwide, almost 380 of them in Germany. Kübler markets its products through 11 global group members and also through partners and representatives in over 50 countries. An appropriate application and service team is always on site, as many customers still work globally with Kübler today as an OEM supplier or in the project business.

Kübler is currently occupying several new market segments with innovative and high-growth product innovations, thus consolidating the basis for sustained further growth. The company, which currently focuses on position and motion sensors (bearing and non-bearing rotary encoders, linear sensors), slip rings and counter process technology, has increased its share of R&D employees from 12% to 16% in recent years. The managing directors explained that this was part of the Kübler innovation marathon. Their goal: to place product innovations on fast-growing new market segments, to significantly expand the brand message beyond encoders and to jointly shape the customer's progress in projects. "As an independent company with equity capital of almost 80 percent, we can make our own decisions and even forgo a few percentage points of EBIT to strengthen our foundations for the future," says Gebhard Kübler.

Part of the innovation marathon are large R&D projects. This includes a new safe shaft copying system for the growing international elevator industry, where the new DIN-81-20/50 standard requires technologies for safe shaft copying.
This makes conventional magnetic switches completely superfluous and speeds up installation in an elevator shaft. The main interest here is both the large Chinese elevator market and many elevator manufacturers in Europe and America.

The innovation marathon also includes slip rings for the filling technology, packaging, mobile machinery, and other segments. The new slip rings are part of a modular technology system, can quickly be adapted to customer projects, and allow Ethernet transmissions of up to 100 MBit/s, as well as high currents.

Another part of the innovation marathon are motor feedback encoders for servo motors. Here, Kübler relies on the one hand on classic interfaces already established on the market, and on the other hand on new open single-cable interfaces, which Kübler has created together with market partners. These include SCS open link and Biss Line, among others.

Major investments in R&D also include new smart magnetic bearingless sensors for drive technology (sensor integration in smart motors), generators and the wind industry. For this new segment, a whole team of development engineers was hired in Berlin to work closely with headquarters to implement customer projects and prepare new catalog products. Bearingless encoders not only measure current signals, but also the states of a drive, for example with regard to aging, thus permitting monitoring of its condition. Global interest is extreme. Kübler also invests in the corresponding magnetization technologies and manufactures a considerable part of the value chain in-house. Smart sensors also ensure that inaccuracies in magnetization or in the shaft are eliminated by intelligent FPGA-based compensation, and that signal quality similar to that of an optical encoder can be achieved.

Production takes place at the headquarters in Villingen-Schwenningen and at three other locations. Slip rings are manufactured in Otterfing, near Munich. There is also a production plant in Pune, India and an assembly plant in Charlotte, North Carolina. The latter contributes significantly to the company's current success in North America. Despite the difficult political environment and protectionism, this is a very fast-growing market. The local production has been very well received by the customers.

In order to achieve their goals, the two entrepreneurs rely on attractive and meaningful jobs as well as targeted employee development and continuing education. In addition to values such as personal responsibility, process thinking and cross-departmental cooperation are required and promoted in the company. The so-called Kübler production system and its kaizen-based value creation system provide the necessary transparency and above all short lead times, a basic goal of the Kaizen culture lived at Kübler.

Recently, a special Kübler app called "MyKübler" was introduced to provide employees with all necessary information. Also new: a Kübler credit card for every employee and a company-wide occupational disability insurance policy which every employee receives without a health check. Against this backdrop, the entrepreneurs are also pleased about their third award in a row as TOP Employer and their second award as TOP Innovator. "Above all, this gives us new input for further improvement and shows that workplace attractiveness is not just an empty phrase, but is actively and structurally pursued," said the managing directors.

"In the company, we always concentrate on the customer, then there is no time for the internal conflicts which always occur", the managing directors say with a smile.
The results of the latest customer survey, with a recommendation rate of 98.3%, confirm that Kübler's current strategy is solid. They still constantly question every process, improve things, and actively seek new challenges. Lothar Kübler in closing: "We like to celebrate successes, but then quickly move on to the next challenge or improvement in order not to stand still."

Ludwigsburg – For the 25th time, the TOP 100 competition has identified the most innovative small-to-medium-sized companies in Germany. This year, Fritz Kübler GmbH is among these innovation leaders. That resulted from the analysis of the scientific director of TOP 100, Professor Nikolaus Franke. As the mentor of TOP 100, Ranga Yogeshwar, along with Franke and compamedia, honored the Villingen-Schwenningen company on June 29, 2018 at the awards ceremony in Ludwigsburg as part of the 5th annual German SME Summit. Kübler has managed the leap into this innovation elite twice now. During the independent selection process, the company, with 480 employees worldwide, made a particular impression with its ambitious innovation projects.

Fritz Kübler GmbH develops, produces, and markets technologically leading position and motion sensors. The family company, founded in 1960, has also made a name for itself in counting and process systems and slip rings. This medium-sized company runs its ambitious innovation projects from its headquarters in Villingen-Schwenningen in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. In particular the trend towards Industry 4.0 has opened up tremendous growth potential for the top innovator. "This is a huge opportunity for us, because even more smart sensors will be needed.

This is why we opened our Engineering Solution Center last year at the new Berlin location, where we do continuous improvement of our smart magnetic sensors," explains CEO Lothar Kübler. But Berlin and the Villingen-Schwenningen headquarters aren't the only places where Kübler is currently investing above-average sums in the development of new technologies related to rotary and linear encoders, tilt angle sensors, and industrial communications interfaces as part of the innovation marathon. The Otterfing location is intensively working on expanding its slip ring line, equipped with novel contact and transmission technologies.

This much innovation, of course, demands corresponding manpower. An impressive 16% of the 350 total employees in Germany work in the area of research and development. It's no wonder this medium-sized company has been awarded the TOP 100 seal for the second time this year.

The Kübler Group was on the scene at the 35th Heilbronner Aufzugstage trade show on March 6 and 7. The focus was on the new LES absolute shaft copy systems Kübler brought to the market at the end of last year. This innovative, SIL3-certified measurement system is especially notable for its tough, compact design and for its extreme ease of installation. Based on 100% non-slip position feedback and 100% contact-free sensors, additional components like magnetic switches in the elevator shaft will soon be a thing of the past. That saves not only installation and maintenance time, but especially also reduces the total cost of the elevator system.

Kübler also exhibited its line of rotational sensors for gearless motors. In addition to bearing-mounted rotary encoders, there was plenty of interest in our line of smart, bearing-free magnetic rings and rotary encoder systems, which can provide not only rotational speeds, but for example also information for preventive maintenance.
Visitors were able to get information about current issues at small booths and a variety of interesting talks, for example about changing regulatory requirements, cybersecurity for elevator software, and even a virtual tour of thyssenkrupp's new test tower. For Kübler, both days were a complete success, with a number of interesting discussions.
