Magnetic length measuring systems

Contactless position measurement suitable for the harshest environments.

With a linear magnetic measuring system, the sensor system, also called scanning head or sensor, is guided contactlessly over a coded magnetic tape. You can choose between incremental and absolute sensors. The measuring system is insensitive to dust, chips, and moisture and resistant to many liquids and oils. Various interfaces are available for the respective applications. Kübler always provides you with the optimum sensor technology for your application. That's why we offer countless ordering options and are ready to realize modifications and special solutions for you.
Robust and reliable
  • Versatile – Incremental and absolute
  • Robust sensors – IP69k protection
  • Easy mounting – Magnetic tape with adhesive strips
  • Wear-free technology – contactless measuring principle
  • Space-saving design – compact design

Technology in detail

Incremental measuring systems determine the actual position or the distance covered by counting pulses using a suitable controller. Magnetic incremental measurement as an economic solution
Incremental

Incremental measuring systems determine the actual position or the distance covered by counting pulses using a suitable controller. With a magnetic length measuring system, the pole changes on the magnetic tape are evaluated and intermediate values are interpolated.

Absolute measuring systems determine each position using a unique code pattern. Absolute magnetic measurement for high measurement reliability
Absolute

Absolute measuring systems determine each position using a unique code pattern. Unlike an incremental system, an absolute measuring system does not require a reference run. In the event of a power failure, the current position is available immediately after power is restored.

Application examples

Medical technology

In the field of medical technology, magnetic length measuring systems from Kübler are used in applications such as laboratory and analysis technology, operating tables, and treatment tables. Values are recorded for exact positioning. In addition to its excellent resolution, this sensor technology scores with an extremely compact design.

Solar power industry

Solar plants are an important part of our infrastructure and relevant to ensure that the switch to renewable energy is successful. The measurement systems used to control the mirrors used in these systems must be able to withstand the most diverse and harsh environmental conditions. Magnetic measuring systems from Kübler are both compact and extremely robust. For example, they are perfectly suited for use in CSP parabolic trough plants. An index pulse available on the magnetic tape allows quick referencing of the position after a failure or maintenance work. The aim is to obtain the maximum amount of solar energy at any time of day and convert it into electrical energy. Due to the contactless technology, the measuring system is 100% maintenance-free and therefore extremely durable.

Woodworking

Magnetic measuring systems from Kübler are used in woodworking machines and plants in applications such as edge grinding machines, block band saws, saw tables, sliding table saws, drilling centers, coordinate drilling machines, and overhead traveling saws. The key is to record positions accurately, for example to be able to saw boards to the correct length. In addition to its excellent resolution, this sensor technology scores with an extremely compact and robust design. Magnetic length measuring systems are often used in combination with Kübler counters or displays of the Codix series.

Glass processing

In the field of glass processing, magnetic measuring systems from Kübler are used for glass cutting, glass grinding, glass handling, and glass printing. Among other things, the position values required for cutting glass panes to length or to execute drilling patterns are recorded here. In addition to its excellent resolution, this sensor technology scores with an extremely compact and robust design.
